The town of Pushkar
is far from the noisy environment of the city. When he reaches the
Ghats, particularly the Ghats near the Sarovar Tourist

he gets refreshed and loses his tiredness of his journey.Pushkar is situated at the foot of the hills which add to its beauty. Five rivers, Suprabha, Kanaka, Prachi Nanda, and Saraswati flow here and make the place more beautiful and serene. Pushkar is about 153 kms from Jaipur, which is also the nearest airport, 13 kms from Ajmer Railway Station.. A winding road among the hills leads to Pushkar. The way is full of natural scenes. There are the rows of beautiful flower plants on either side of the road and the travellers get refreshed while travelling this place. One can see the buses, tongas, taxis and pedestrians on the road coming to and going from Pushkar. The road is always busy. The pedestrians enjoy their walk. They can have rest under the shady trees too. When a tourist or a pilgrim reaches Pushkar, he finds himself among the nature. Shopping in Pushkar An array of stalls all along the main bazar are renowed for embroidered fabrics and shoes colourful beads and bangles, brass utensils, belts studded with brass, cloth covers for cammels with mirror work colourful saddles and leather goods beautiful wall hanging and shoulder bags. Ajmer is a popular
pilgrimage centre for the Hindus as well as Muslims. Especially famous
is the Dargah Sharif-tomb of the Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti,
which is equally revered by the Hindus and Muslims. It is a centre of
culture and education, the British chose Ajmer for its prestigious Mayo
College a school exclusively for Indian nobility. Ajmer is also the base
for visiting Pushkar (11 km.), the abode of Lord Brahma, lying to its
west with a temple and a picturesque lake. The Pushkar Lake is a sacred
spot for Hindus. During the month of Kartik (Oct./Nov.), devotes throng
in large numbers here to take a dip in the sacred lake. Shopping in
Ajmer is an enjoyable experience. One can shop for antiques curios,
fascinating gold and silver jewelry in contemporary designs, colourful
tie and-die saris and embroided jodhpuri :Jutis" Especially during
the annual urs fair, a range of colourful items and marvelous creations
of traditional folk artisans for sale. India's most important Pilgrimage "Ajmer-E-Sharif" resides here, which is the center for people from all faith. It is the splendid tomb of the Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, more popularly known as Khwaja Sharif. The shrine is next only to Mecca or Medina for the Muslims of South Asia. Akbar used to make a pilgrimage to the Dargah from Agra once a year. The mausoleum has a gigantic gate, which was built by the Nizam of Hyderabad. The two massive cauldrons in the courtyard are of particular interests and on the right side of the courtyard is the Akabari Masjid built in white marble. There is another mosque in the courtyard built by Shahjahan from Agra once a year. The saints tomb with a splendid marble domes is in the centre of the second courtyard which is surrounded by a silver platform. The shrine attracts thousands of pilgrims during the Urs commemorating the death anniversary of the Saint, held from the 1st to 6th day of the Islamic month of during this time is the major attraction.
